Why is it important to wash the fabric before cutting quilting?
Why is it important to wash your fabric before cutting to pique SOP?
There are two schools of thought on this point. Personally I do not prewash my fabric before making a duvet, and many persons, including quilters professional, either. Others (including blankets others) insist prewash each piece of fabric. If you have a dark or light, especially red or purple, or if the fabric is hand dyed or batik, should be tested for color fastness. Wipe with a damp white cotton cloth and see if it takes all colors. Or you can cut a piece and put it in a small bowl of water with a little liquid soap. If the discolored water, you should prewash. Best quality quilting fabrics are less prone to color transfer, except batiks, which are still sensitive to color transfer. If no Pre-wash, I would recommend a cry when you wash color Catcher the first time, just in case. As decreases, depends on what you like. When you use quality fabrics similar with the same composition (100% cotton, for example), you can play, quilt and bind the whole before the wash and retracts consistently. Also wrinkles slightly, giving the air of antiquity. If you do not look to old-fashioned and would you like a soft blanket, then all means, before washing the fabric.
